Oregon Surgical Institute (OSI), an outpatient surgery center serving patients throughout Greater Portland, has been named a 2026 Best Ambulatory Surgery Center by U.S. News & World Report, recognizing the center for quality and patient outcomes in outpatient joint replacement.

The recognition places OSI among the top 2% of ambulatory surgery centers nationwide for hip replacement and the top 6% for knee replacement, reflecting the center’s continued focus on advancing high-quality orthopedic care in the outpatient setting.

“This recognition reflects the commitment our entire team brings to providing exceptional care for every patient who comes through our doors,” said Erin McKay, M.S.N., R.N., C.N.M.L., C.A.S.C., Administrator at Oregon Surgical Institute. “We’re proud to be recognized among the nation’s leading ambulatory surgery centers. It reinforces our commitment to advancing outpatient surgery while providing a safe, coordinated and personalized experience for every patient we serve.”

Since opening in 2018, OSI has focused on changing outpatient surgery for the better by bringing together experienced surgeons, specialized clinical teams, advanced technology and coordinated patient care in a facility designed specifically for complex outpatient procedures.

Advancing What’s Possible in Outpatient Surgery

U.S. News evaluated 4,421 ambulatory surgery centers nationwide for its 2026 ratings, with 911 receiving the Best Ambulatory Surgery Centers designation. According to U.S. News, the designation recognizes facilities that meet its standards for patient safety and clinical outcomes. In Orthopedics & Spine specifically, centers designated as Best ASCs had, on average, 29% fewer severity-weighted complications than all ASCs evaluated in the category.

OSI was built around the belief that complex surgical care can be delivered differently. The center provides outpatient procedures across ankle, cardiology, foot, hand, wrist and elbow, hip, joint revision, knee, orthopedic trauma, podiatry, shoulder, spine, sports medicine and total joint replacement, including procedures supported by robotic technology. Its model combines advanced surgical techniques and technology with patient education, coordinated care and recovery at home.

For total joint replacement patients, that approach begins well before the day of surgery. Dedicated Orthopedic Care Coordinators help patients and caregivers prepare for the procedure and understand the recovery process, while the surgical and clinical teams follow a coordinated pathway through surgery and postoperative care. OSI reports that it has helped more than 4,000 patients receive total joint replacement surgery in an outpatient setting.

Built Around the Patient

At the center of OSI’s approach is a simple goal: help patients return to the lives and activities that matter to them.

From a facility designed specifically for complex outpatient procedures to a clinical team focused on personalized care, OSI continues to invest in the people, processes and technology that support patients throughout their surgical experience. The U.S. News recognition adds to that ongoing commitment to elevate outpatient surgical care for patients throughout Greater Portland.
