• Attend all recommended/required medical appointments, including any pre-operative testing, if necessary.
• Fill prescriptions from your surgeon.
• Confirm your ride home from the surgery center. You must have a responsible adult to take you home and care for you for 24 hours after your surgery. We do not permitpatients to go home alone via public transportation (bus, Uber, Lyft, etc.).  If you do not have a ride and caretaker, your surgery will be canceled.

The day before surgery, please expect two phone calls. An anesthesiologist from the surgery center will attempt to call you at the number you provided to your physician’s office. This phone call is very important and is made in an effort to speak with you about your medical and surgical history. A Pre-Op nurse will call to provide your surgery check-in time. They will also review any information you completed online (One Medical Passport) which may require clarification.

• Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night prior to your surgery. (No water, food, gum, cough drops, smoking, etc.)
  • If you fail to follow this instruction it is likely that your surgery will be cancelled.
• The surgery center business office will call you before your surgery to verify insurance. If you do not receive a call from the business office by noon the day before your procedure, please call the center between the hours of 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm at 971-708-0400 to verify insurance.
• Some medications may be taken the morning of surgery. Please contact your physician if you have questions about these medications.

• No eating or drinking after midnight the night prior to surgery.
• Report to the surgery center at the time given to you by our pre-operative nurse the business day before surgery.
• Arrive promptly at the time instructed during your pre-op phone call. This will allow adequate time for all necessary admission procedures.

• Please bring your insurance ID cards, photo ID, and any necessary method of payment. If special financial arrangements are necessary, please call the Oregon Surgical Institute prior to admission. You must have a legal identification card and insurance card to complete the registration process prior to surgery, unless you have already uploaded it via One Medical Passport. For pediatric patients, the parent must provide legal identification.

• Our receptionist will review several forms which require your signatures.
• Be sure to bring any paperwork your doctor gave you such as test results or your medical history and a list of medications you are taking.
• No jewelry is allowed in the Operating Room, including body piercings. Please leave jewelry and all valuables at home. Please do not wear false eyelashes to the surgery center.
• Upon arrival, you will change into a hospital gown and slippers, which we provide. All clothing and belongings will be secured while you are undergoing your procedure and will be returned to you in Recovery.

• No contacts or eye glasses are allowed in the Operating Room. If you need glasses or contacts to see for driving, signing consents, etc. it is okay to wear them to the center but please bring a case to put them in. You will be required to remove them prior to surgery.
• Dentures and hearing aids may be worn to the surgery center. You will be required to remove them prior to surgery.

• Our pre-operative team will meet with you before your surgery to discuss your anesthesia, review medical history with medications, as well as provide familiar faces when you awaken from anesthesia.

•  Wear loose fitting, clean, comfortable clothing to the surgery center that will fit around newly placed bandages, splints, casts, etc.
• Females between the ages of 12 and 55 years old will need to give a urine sample upon admission to the pre-op area to test for pregnancy, unless waived by the patient.
• Medications – all patients taking prescription or over-the-counter medications should complete the medication section on One Medical Passport. If you did not do so, please bring a complete list of your medications (with strength and dose).
• Visitors are not allowed in the Pre-Op and Recovery areas unless the patient is a minor, in which case one parent is allowed.
• After surgery you will be moved to the Recovery Area where you will be closely monitored until you are ready to go home.
• Recovery times for patients vary significantly depending on the type of surgery performed. Our Recovery Area staff will be in contact with your ride to provide up-to-date estimates on discharge times as your recovery progresses.
• It is perfectly normal to feel discomfort in the area of the surgery. You may also experience some drowsiness or dizziness depending on the kind of anesthesia you received.

• Your surgeon will provide specific instructions for care while recovering at home. In the event of difficulty, please call your surgeon’s office.
• For the first 24 hours following surgery, do not engage in strenuous activities, do not drink alcoholic beverages, drive or make any important decisions.
• You will be asked to complete an electronic survey about the care you received via text or email. Your comments will enable us to continue to improve our services.
• You will receive a follow-up phone call from our nursing staff to ensure you are recovering well and to help answer any questions you may have.
